Our Ranches

We transform Patagonian heritage into a global, sustainable future.

MORRO CHICO

27,000 hectares –8,300 multi-purpose merinos and 400 Hereford and Angus mother cows.
We redesigned Morro Chico together with the ranch's work team, collaborators and an architectural studio specialized in sustainable architecture, Richter-Dahl Rocha from Switzerland, to make it a Patagonian ranch of the future. To achieve this, an ambitious plan was launched, based on modern standards and a futuristic approach. This includes staff’s housing and a completely new shearing shed. Also new sheep and cattle yards, horse stables and dog kennels.
The main goal is to scale up our production of quality merino wool, lamb, mutton and beef and to be able to place these products in the most sophisticated global markets.

Sheep production:
We produce Merino wool that ranges from 16.5 to 19 microns in hoggets and adult sheep from 18.8 to 21.6 microns with yields that range from 65 to 69%. Our lambing percentages are around 90% with carcass weights of 14 kilos at 100 days.
We look for hardy sheep , high growth rates in lambs and back fat, key selection traits for the region where we farm. We carry out artificial insemination AI - using rams with EPDs that align with these breeding goals.

In cattle we look for calving ease, high growth rates in calves and back fat. We are guided by Lawrence Lasater’s principles that can be read in the “Lasater Philosophy of Cattle Raising” book. We perform artificial insemination using bulls with EPDs aligned with our breeding goals.
We carry out animal welfare practices in sheep and cattle (we are certified with Responsible Wool Standard – RWS). We practice silvopastoral management as we have more than 4,000 has of native forest. We have also implemented a program of protection of small ñire trees through the use of protectors (that prevent introduced European hares from grazing). We are a pilot site of silvopastoral MBGI (stands for Manejo de Bosque con Ganadería Integrada) in the province of Santa Cruz.
We work with Ambiente Sur, a grass root NGO from Río Gallegos, focused on the study and protection of migratory birds. The goal of the alliance is to improve bird habitat with better livestock management.
We have a holistic view when planning the grazing of our sheep and cattle. We carry out 2 grazing plans a year, for the growth and non-growth seasons. We invite members of several NGOs such as Ambiente Sur, Wildlife Conservation Society and INTA Río Gallegos team to participate in the grazing plan.
We measured our regenerative management through EOV (Ecological Outcome Verification) monitors.
Additionally, we are certified with Wildlife Friendly.

LA ROSA | LA FILOMENA | LA ESTRELLITA

95,000 hectares – 12,000 merinos:
Estancia La Rosa,La Filomena and La Estrellita stand for both tradition and modern ranching.
We combine sustainable farming with generation of green energy through our 24 MW wind farm located in La Rosa. We partnered with PAE - Pan American Energy group in the Renovar 1.0 auction and won a 20 contract with Cammesa. Generation of electricity started in: 2018. Provides electricity for 20,000 households.
We have upgraded our farm infrastructure, especially modernizing the water system for our sheep. We installed a system of pumps and solar panels to complement the traditional windmills.
We have implemented an ambitious fencing plan to improve the grazing of our sheep.
Focused on animal welfare best practices - we are Responsible Wool Standard - RWS- certified.
Coexisting with wildlife, through our Wildlife friendly certification.

With the goal to improve our natural capital we have started holistic management. We have installed trend monitors to measure progress through EOV (Ecological Outcome Verification).
We produce merino wool that goes from 17 to 21 microns, with yields that range from 61 to 65%. We look for hardy sheep that can withstand Patagonia’s harsh climate and environment.
